If you participate at all in what many now refer to as the "culture war," you will inevitably run into leftist activists demanding that you define what "woke" means. The assertion is that conservatives and liberty advocates must have made up the term and we don't know what it means. Of course, it was leftists who first used "woke" to describe themselves; they claim that they are "awakened" to their oppression and no longer shackled by the "constraints of traditional social constructs and morals."
For the rest of us, woke means the opposite; it is the exploitation of perceived oppression as a means to justify the deconstruction of cultures that are contrary to their aims. It's the use of fraudulent victimhood as a weapon to force people to accept a collectivist structure in which woke activists most benefit.
Now that the true goals of the movement have been exposed to the wider public, these same activists who proudly proclaimed themselves "woke" only a few years ago pretend as if the word was never a thing.
I find there's a lot to be learned in the ways that certain people argue. You can find out immediately almost everything you need to know about a person or group depending on the way they defend their own ideas and the way they engage with critics. Some people will rely on facts, evidence, logic, reason and extensive experience to support their position. Sadly, others will rely on emotion, empty rhetoric, manipulation and hypocrisy. Some people want to figure out what the truth is. Other people just want to "win" at any cost.
For example, leftists question conservatives on our terminology constantly as if our words don't mean anything. At the same time, those activists make up terminology from thin air regularly.
Words and phrases like "intersectionality, equity, cisgender, trans woman, etc." are all fabricated from nothing by leftists, at least in the context in which they are often used. Only progressives are allowed to make up terms to label what they like and don't like. The rest of us are not.
This dynamic, the controlling of words and their definitions, is paramount to the woke movement. Another example is their re-definition of what "racism" is and how this helps us to understand the way leftists think. This is how they use dishonest terminology to gain the upper hand in social and political conflicts.
If racism is determined by the traditional definition of prejudice against someone because of their skin color and ethnicity, then white people can be victims of racism too. But under the new leftist definition of "prejudice + power" only white people can be racist because only white people (specifically white conservatives and capitalists) have power according to them.
This is how activists think they can gain dominance over their political opponents... by changing the meanings of words so that certain behaviors become acceptable for them and unacceptable for their enemies. If only white people can be racists, then white people become fair game for any level of mistreatment unless they declare fealty to the woke cause. If conservatives are the same as "Nazis" then they can be targeted as enemy combatants like Nazis once were. If liberty activists are "domestic terrorists" then they can be imprisoned or killed because terrorists represent an imminent threat to society.
Leftists are obsessed with the molding of words as if they are magical passports to power.
This kind of behavior should be very familiar to most psychologists out there. The use of hyperbole for the sake of dehumanization, the exploitation of false labels as a means to put people on the defensive, the flurry of "word salad" designed to confuse anyone confronting them, the weaponization of gaslighting to distract from one's own malicious actions; these are all common traits of narcissists.
It's all in the way leftists argue. They ARE a movement of narcissists. In fact, I would venture to say that the woke movement is actually an experimental religion of narcissism.
Consider for a moment what the political left most values. Is it equality? No, they already have that under the law.
Is it conformity? That's definitely high on their list, but it's not at the top.
What does the average leftist really want more than anything else? How about affirmation? How about self-aggrandizement? How about the feeling that they are truly and profoundly special? How about self-worship?
These are the things that drive narcissists and by extension, they are the things that drive the woke movement. In this religion, there is no room for a god or a deity (unless maybe you count the government as a deity). Rather, the woke movement attracts adherents by making them feel as if THEY are the center of adoration. It turns their frailties into virtues and makes all their bad behaviors moral by abandoning reality for perception.
The key to the woke religion and self-worship is the veneration of relativism; if all morals and principles are relative then all evil behaviors eventually become acceptable. If the worship of oneself as a god is paramount then one can never admit fallibility or fault because "God" knows everything. You can do whatever you want to whoever you want because your affirmation is more important than anything else. After all, the woke are gods in their own minds but they are also "victims" in their own minds, therefore they think they're entitled to reparations.
As with many religions, there is the concept of original sin. But in the woke religion those people that present the greatest threat to leftists are the only people with original sin. The people who want to keep the culture they already have are the sinners, and anyone within the political left who disagrees in any way with the plan is a heretic.
I realize that there's a tendency among the fence-sitters out there to claim that people on the political right are guilty of all the same thinking and misdeeds. I suspect this is a coping mechanism among certain folks who are deathly afraid of being seen as "taking a side." If you take a side then you can be manipulated, right? In truth, whether the people in the middle of the road like it or not, there are times in history when there are only two sides to an issue or a conflict. There are times when one side embraces evil, and the other side opposes it and there's very little gray area in-between. We are facing such a moment today.
Relativism and the culture of self-worship are evil. They are paths that lead to one thing: Destruction. There is no debate, there is no nuance. You don't have to be conservative or libertarian to realize what the woke movement is, but the fact remains that our side is the side that saw it coming and has tried to warn everyone else about it.
Many years before wokeness and DEI were the subjects of analysis and ridicule among YouTubers and Republican pundits, we were there debunking the narratives of cultural Marxists in academia and pointing out the hidden propaganda in film and television. They have been lying and changing the language, we have been calling them out. So no, the two sides are not the same. We value the truth and they do not.
Beyond the distractions of fence-sitters, the war continues. It's important to realize that many different systems of belief can indeed exist in one society, however, the woke cult of narcissism and any notion of moral structure are mutually exclusive; one cannot coexist with the other. If you value heritage, principles, conscience and honor then you will never be able to live side-by-side with the woke. They will always seek to tear you down.
Is this a fight between order and chaos? Yes, in a way that was probably the intent when the culture war was engineered. It's also about responsibility. Freedom should not be the ultimate goal of liberty proponents; we should be seeking freedom WITH responsibility. The political left is motivated by hedonism and power... this is what they want most of all. Their methods betray their intentions. Chaos is their most useful tool to get what they want.
Our goal must be responsibility more than "order." Let's not play the game of the elites and assert one form of authoritarianism to defeat another. That said, the woke religion needs to go. We must accept that this is no longer a battle of ideas, it's a battle for supremacy. They made it this way.
Let's not pretend as if this is a diplomatic discourse in which both sides can somehow meet in the middle. It's not going to happen. They want to rule over everything and the only way to stop them is to remove them or their ideology from our culture.
For now, the fight has turned against them because the public is more aware of them, but they still have the support of nearly every government and every major corporation in the West. In other words, things will get worse well before they get better, and this is not over by a long shot.
To truth and knowledge, ~Brandon Smith
I do believe that Brandon has done a swell job of explaining what being “woke” means when a left leaning chaos promoting individual uses the word. I approve of his message, I hope you do also.
Wokeism is nothing but a rehashed manifestation of Marxism.
Woke = Communism, Fascism, Totalitarianism, or whatever you want to blame it on, "A Lack of Freedom."
