I read that paying the irs was not always a law or the government only allowed/did this in times of war. Am I saying this right? How do we fight back against this? And I didn’t take the poison but my bff/husband did. :(

When you look at the history of the world in general you can see this same pattern emerging over and over and over. It is sort of like a rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat cycle. Seems you could attach the symbolism (which is the way I view it) of "Revelation" to many incidents in time. The current political climate in the USA and many other parts of the world mirror the discourse that is set forth in the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson. That is the list of abuses that the colonists were suffering under the current psychopathic control freak. Take the time to read that list some time and you will see a rather eerie parallel to our current situation here in the good ol' US of A. I was able to come up with a corresponding US bureaucracy and match all 10 planks of the Communist Manifesto to our current situation back in 2004. It surely hasn't gotten any better in most cases!
