I was in Junior and High school from 1967-1972. My experience being in an integrated school back then was that a LOT of black kids hated white kids. I remember a kid named Hank Perry who was beaten almost to death in 10th grade. He came to the auditorium class all black and blue on his face where numerous black kids beat on him for one reason...HE WAS WHITE. I learned my way of thinking back then. And it was avoid certain neighborhoods, avoid going to certain shopping areas and you'll be fine. I was a store detective and saw over and over how black families would treat their kids that got caught shoplifting. They would hit them and say "I'll teach you to get CAUGHT!" I found out in school during a human relations meeting that it was getting CAUGHT violating "white mans" law that was the sin, not doing the act.
Getting caught seems to be the way of thinking for most Americans. Before my father died, he told me I would see much tragedy between blacks and whites in my lifetime. I did not believe him then, but now I understand and see more clearly. Before the sixties, black people were in families with both parents. Most worked and aspired to teaching their children. Since the 60’s, there has been loss of family life with two parents. It has hurt many children of that era. Those hurt children are now 65 years old who may have continued the cycle.
