During the plandemic, ammo prices skyrocketed, but even today, range fees combined with ammo prices can limit even the amount of necessary practice for many people, whose incomes are dissipating. Without regular practice, even the best shooter's performance can suffer after a while. Inexperienced shooters need practice even more, because dry firing or laser toys just don't simulate live fire, and safety reflexes must also be reinforced all the time.
My remedy is to limit practice to the caliber I am using on the guns I have for self-defense, and focus on accuracy, not on volume. Sadly, range fees are over $300 a year, and shooters (including their performance) are probably on camera. Around here, the annual fee is $250, and we at least have access to an interactive range for an additional $50 a year. All that added up, twice a month practice is $12.50 plus tax each time for the range plus the price of the ammo used. That amounts to about $20 for 100 pieces of 9mm, 60 shots from a 380, or 30 shots from a 357, a 300BLK, or a 5.56. The most affordable ammo is the 22LR (3-400 shots for $20), but one must be a VERY good shot to trust their life on that against an attacker on PCP or multiple attackers... I am leaving out shotguns because of the recoil and the noise. From January, the $200 fee for suppressors will be gone, but in an enclosed space, only .22LR or (to some extent) a subsonic 300 BLK can be used without risking partial or full loss of hearing. Earmuffs, anyone? :)
I was getting 9mm for $18 a box of 50 fmj if I bought bulk. I gather there was a ban on exporting American rounds is what I was told at the shop I buy from.
Now it's some Argentinian stuff and prices are high.
I often go to my buddies farm. We go out to the back 40 and run and few clips to make sure the red dots are all lined up.
We are not supposed to shoot on his farm but cops know him well and leave him alone. He is considered crazy. Crazy is a good thing sometimes. He is a very responsible gun collector and thinks he still lives in the 60s when shooting anywhere was permitted.
Now we are supposed to go to a designated rage under law. Local cops are tolerant of 2 old guys shooting at beer cans in the bush as long as we don't go overboard.
Send me a DM here on SS and I'll send you some cool photos of the custom installs do.
If you are shooting a Bersa, that works with anything! :)
Here, in KY, it's legal to shoot on one's premises as long as it's safe, but what is "safe"? I don't want to get into any problems with neighbors or the law.
It's best not to post or send anything over the Internet! :)
Guilty until proven innocent. I my case, I no longer care. I have come to terms with the new reality we are in. I personally requested they send the robot dogs to arrest me when the day comes. They look like good opponents. I will not feel bad if they get broken as I resist arrest lol…
If they succeed I will go to the new CECOT prison and retire with the Homies.
What a world we live. It’s like I stepped though a portal into some poorly written Sci Fi script.
It has been guilty until proven innocent for years. This was a life experience with a man found guilty of the terrible crime of using a hacksaw and cutting off a shot gun barrel below the “legal” limit. After all, that’s what the 2nd amendment says does it? EXCEPT a shotgun barrel be longer than 18”. https://www.courageouslion.us/p/sammy-used-to-love-homegrown-green

This one took the advice of Homeland Security and purchased a pair of .44 magnum scissors.

I can't even get good quality America rounds anymore.
The lower quality 9mm are now 70 cents a round. I can't bring myself to buy them.
I no longer go and run 400- 500 rounds like before. Hoarding my good stuff.
I do a 100 max and it goes fast.
Where does the 9mm cost so much? At our range it's on sale for about $10 for 50.
Other than that, even at these prices, I am also down to 50-100 a time, and can't afford to go twice a month...

Yes, everything is now logged now.

Yup, that's pretty much the way I draw the line:

On the other hand, I'd prefer to avoid the robotic enforcers. I don't think it will be the dogs. :)
Yeah. Friend says less, no guns but what happens when she needs to protect herself. And the whole thing abt 911. True.
Spot on!
